Biarritz captain Benoit August could miss the Heineken Cup final after being cited for allegedly gouging Danny Grewcock during the semi-final win over Bath at the weekend.
August appeared to make contact Grewcock just before half-time at Estadio Anoeta, with the England lock left with marks around his left eye.
Grewcock played down the incident but it has been reported by citing commissioner John West.
Biarritz went on to record an 18-9 victory in San Sebastian, setting up a meeting with Munster in the final on May 20 at the Millennium Stadium.
Grewcock was able to continue after on-pitch treatment following his clash with August and later collected a yellow card for his part in a mass brawl.
August could face a lengthy ban from rugby if he is found guilty by a disciplinary committee, although a date for the hearing has not been set.
Ironically, Grewcock is no stranger to controversy himself. He was banned for two months after being found guilty of biting New Zealand hooker Keven Mealamu while playing for the Lions last summer.
A statement from European Rugby Cup officials confirmed: "An independent disciplinary committee will be convened as soon as is practicable."
