Canadian coach Kieran Crowley has added a number of European-based professional players to his side for Saturday's clash with Ireland at Thomond Park.

Canada opened their four-match tour with an unconvincing 21-13 victory over Portugal in Lisbon and Crowley has made seven changes from that starting XV for their first clash with Ireland since a 27-27 draw in Toronto back in 2000.

Four of those changes come in the pack with a new secondrow pairing of Mike Burak from English Division side Cornish Pirates and Begles Bordeaux's Josh Jackson.

John Thiel comes in at tighthead, with Glasgow Warriors' Kevin Tkachuk set to pick up his 41st cap on the other side of the scrum. Pat Riordan will captain the side from hooker.

Plymouth Albion's Sean Michael Stephen completes the changes in the pack, coming in at blindside flanker.

The Canucks have a new look to their halfback pairing with, with Cornish Pirates' scrumhalf Ed Fairhurst joining Ander Monro, who has recovered from a leg injury picked up against Portugal.

Crowley has also changed both wings, with Ciaran Hearn from Newfoundland coming in to make his debut on the right, while Plymouth's Justin Mensah-Coker filling the left berth.

"It is a big test of this team — that is why they are called Tests — and we have to see if the systems we are putting in place will stand up to what Ireland has to offer," said former Taranaki coach Crowley.
