Dropped England youngster Danny Cipriani has apologised "unreservedly" for visiting a nightclub days before the most important match of his fledgling career.
The 20-year-old Wasps star was cut from the team to face Scotland in Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash at Murrayfield after being pictured outside a club shortly after midnight yesterday morning.
Cipriani has admitted he is "totally heartbroken" after being dropped and claims he only went to the club to give tickets to a friend, insisting he did not drink any alcohol or misbehave in any way.
"First and foremost I would like to apologise unreservedly to Brian Ashton, my England team-mates and the RFU," he told The Sun.
"Playing for England means absolutely everything to me and I am totally heartbroken not to be now taking part in Saturday's match against Scotland.
"Believe me, it is a harsh punishment but I will take it on the chin and dwell on what I have done wrong. I have already learnt an extremely painful lesson for one brief moment of naivety.
"I've digested what happened and fully accept I was in the wrong place at the wrong time."
