Wing Vincent Clerc was dropped then recalled today as France coach Marc Lievremont reshuffled the team that beat Scotland 27-6 for Saturday's Six Nations game against Ireland.

Lievremont had announced six changes, handing the right wing position of Clerc, who scored two tries at Murrayfield, to Aurelien Rougerie and keeping Julien Malzieu on the left.

However, Malzieu has now been ruled out because of a torn thigh muscle and Clerc is  restored to the starting line-up.

In another forced change, Julien Bonnaire comes in at number eight for Elvis Vermeulen, ruled out for the remainder of the tournament with a fractured rib.

Hooker Dimitri Szarzewski, prop Nicolas Mas, lock Arnaud Mela, flyhalf David Skrela and wing Aurelien Rougerie, who started on the bench against Scotland, are promoted to the starting line-up.

"There are many changes which are a reward for the spirit the replacements showed before and during the match against Scotland," coach Marc Lievremont said after the team announcement.

"It seems logical to us to see everybody, to give everybody a chance while keeping the team balanced."

The withdrawals of Vermeulen and Malzieu led Lievremont, who selected six uncapped players in his first squad before the Scotland game, to add two more newcomers to his 22.

Number eight Louis Picamoles, who plays club rugby at Montpellier, received the call on his 22nd birthday.

"I first thought it was a joke because I didn't know the person who was on the phone, then my club chairman confirmed it was true," he told journalists after his arrival at the team's training base in Marcoussis.

The fact the selectors went for him and not Sebastien Chabal confirmed that the burly Sale player, who rose to fame during last year's World Cup, was not part of their plans.

Picamoles will start the game on the bench alongside Anthony Floch.

The 24-year-old fullback from Clermont was a member of the 40-player squad assembled by former coach Bernard Laporte during the last Six Nations to train for the World Cup.
