Wales 38 Ireland 24: Andrew Conway equalled the try-scoring record at the Junior World Championship this afternoon but could not prevent Ireland going down to a 14-point defeat in their seventh place play-off with Wales. Despite the defeat, Ireland's eighth place finish matched their best result in the tournament.
Wales, who ran in five tries in an open contest, took just four minutes to breach the Irish defence with Lewis Robling touching down but Conway hit back to draw level with New Zealand wing Zac Guildford as the tournament’s all-time leading try scorer.
Conway’s try was his fifth in this year’s event and his tenth overall.
Further scores from Macauley Cook and Liam Williams helped move Wales into a 21-14 half-time lead before tries from Cory Hill and Thomas Young rendered Iain Henderson’s late score for Ireland little more than a consolation.
