Former Leinster and Ireland back row Victor Costello will be inducted into the IRUPA Hooke & MacDonald Hall of Fame next week where he will join other Irish greats such as Peter Clohessy, Mick Galwey and Keith Wood.
"Big Vic" has played for Blackrock College, St. Mary's College, London Irish, Connacht, Leinster and Ireland. He is the third most-capped player for Leinster behind his good friends Shane Byrne and Reggie Corrigan.
He made his provincial debut for Connacht in 1993. After a short
spell with London Irish in 1996, he returned to Ireland with
Leinster and made 127 appearances for the province, scoring 14
tries.
After representing Ireland at all underage levels he made his
international debut against America in 1996 and represented Ireland
on 39 occasions, scoring four tries and also played in the 2003
Rugby World Cup. His last test came against Scotland in March
2004.
"I am particularly honoured to be accepting this award and joining the former players' already inducted into the IRUPA Hooke & MacDonald Hall of Fame," said Costello on hearing the news. "This award means an awful lot to me, especially as it comes from players I played with and against during my career."
Costello, who also represented Ireland at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the shot putt, will be awarded at the fifth edition of the awards next Wednesday (25th).
