Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio has revealed he retired from the national team 18 months ago due to the coaching regime of Clive Woodward.

The Wasps skipper will discover tomorrow whether he has been selected for England's Six Nations squad after coming out of retirement.

"I really questioned the motivation of some of those involved with England, both on the playing and coaching side," he told The Guardian. "So that forced my hand. I was England captain and I'd finished the domestic season leading both the Premiership and European champions. I then went away with England and in three matches against New Zealand and Australia we lost by 30 points, 40 points and 50 points. I didn't deserve that."

Woodward stepped down soon after with his former assistant Andy Robinson appointed as his successor and Dallaglio, 33, admitted he is as determined to impress the current head coach and continue his international career.

"I'm the same as always - a guy who loves being in the dressing room and going out and giving it his all. And the key thing is that England need players fighting for places."

Dallaglio believes his track record of defying the odds means he can still make the World Cup squad for next year - even if he is overlooked for the Six Nations.

"I know people will conclude that's the end for me, but I won't see it that way. I know people's decisions, and personnel, can change very quickly.  I've just signed to play two more years for Wasps, and that means I'm available for England the same length of time."
