Dolphin take deserved plaudits in Cork derby

Constitution taken for the double by city rivals

Cork Constitution 6 Dolphin 9

Dolphin completed an historic All-Ireland League double over their great rivals Cork Constitution with a narrow, but deserved victory at Temple Hill last night.

It’s a major set-back to the Con’s title prospects as they missed out on a chance of making inroads on joint leaders Clontarf and Old Belvedere.

Dolphin led 9-3 at half-time. Barry Keeshan kicked them in front with a penalty before Gerry Hurley levelled after 18 minutes. Ten minutes later Dolphin regained the advantage with a penalty from Rory Scannell.

A couple of minutes from the interval an outbreak of fisticuffs led to the yellow carding of Con’s Ger Sweeney and Dolphin’s Scannell, who joined Cian Bohane in the sin-bin with Dolphin down to 13 players. Dolphin were awarded the resulting penalty, which Keeshan scored for 9-3.
