Squad news: Leinster coach Michael Cheika has named the returning Guy Easterby in an extended 27-man panel ahead of Saturday's trip to Murrayfield to take on Edinburgh in the Heineken Cup.

Former international Easterby retired from professional rugby at the end of the 2006/07 season, but has featured in all 12 league fixtures for English side Otley, who are currently second in England's Division Two.

The 36-year-old comes in as cover at scrumhalf and is eligible for the province until the end of the pool stages.

Easterby joins Bank of Ireland Player of the month for November Bernard Jackman and Felipe Contepomi, who scored a try in an 18-point haul during the 28-14 win at the RDS against Edinburgh.

Leinster and Ireland full-back Girvan Dempsey could come into contention after missing the previous three victories through injury.

Cheika will finalise his starting XV on Friday at lunchtime with kickoff in the Scottish capital on Saturday at 3.30pm.

"It could be a bit tricky playing teams (back-to-back) who you have studied from the week before, and you might take things for granted," said Contepomi.

"Unfortunately when you come up against teams immediately they have seen and played against you, so you have to try new things and try to predict the areas that they might like to attack you.

"Going away from home is always difficult, and Edinburgh are a very tough team to play. We just have to get on with it and prepare as best we can and go and put in a good performance."

Ulster caretaker coach Steve Williams has also named an extended squad (26) ahead of their clash against Ospreys at Ravenhill on Friday night (8.00pm).

The province has struggled to find any kind of form in recent times and Williams is all too aware of the need to inject fresh ideas and impetus into the camp.

"We need to look at making a few changes and injecting fresh legs into the team," said Williams, who will name his starting line-up from on Thursday at noon.

Scrumhalf Isaac Boss sensed the urgency of getting his side back on track following last week's 48-17 defeat away to Ospreys.

"We have an opportunity to redeem ourselves at Ravenhill, it is going to be tough but we have to get back on track and try to start putting the performances in," said Boss.

Williams has included Ballymena's Matt McCullough (26) in the squad, and if selected, will become one of the youngest players to win his 100th cap for the province. He would join players such as; Gary Longwell, David Humphreys, Andy Ward and Simon Best.
