London Irish intend to lodge a formal complaint over alleged racial abuse in the wake of last night's European Cup defeat at Ravenhill.

Ulster won 29-13 to take maximum points in what was a crucial game for both sides' hopes of ultimately escaping Pool Five but that win has been overshadowed by claims from the Exile's camp.

London Irish director of rugby Brian Smith claimed that full-back Delon Armitage had been racially abused by an Ulster player.

"One or two things have happened at the end of each of the games that we will be formally taking forward," he told BBC Radio Berkshire.

Smith said Irish would lodge a formal complaint on Monday.

"We'll do whatever we need to on Monday in terms of putting those issues in writing," he said. "There is no room for some of the nonsense that one of our players had had to put up with for two weeks in a row."
