Ireland v Australia:Despite lingering concerns over his calf injury, Jerry Flannery will start tomorrow's autumn international against Australia. The Munster hooker took a full part in this morning's captain's run and has been passed fit for the match at Croke Park.
John Fogarty had been drafted into the squad yesterday afternoon, and missed Ireland A’s win over Tonga as a result, but will not now be required as Flannery makes the grade.
Looking ahead to tomorrow afternoon’s clash with the Wallabies, Ireland coach Declan Kidney was mindful of the heightened expectations the Irish rugby public have in light of his side’s recent successes.
"People need to be realistic in their expectations and I think that's what we want to be with ours," he warned. "The important thing is to try and get ourselves going, know what worked for us last year and build from there."
Other than debutant prop Cian Healy, there is a settled look to an Ireland side that Kidney admitted earlier in the week had not been selected on form.
In contrast, the Wallabies have lost big names such as Stirling Mortlock, Berrick Barnes and Nathan Sharpe to the treatment room.
They have lost twice on their last three visits to Dublin but Kidney is respectful of a team he believes adapts brilliantly as a match unfolds.
"Like all Australia teams they play for the whole 80 minutes," he said. "They're a clever team in that they change tactically and can come at you with four or five different approaches.
"Defensively they're very smart and don't give up many tries. The Tri-Nations teams play each other each year so they've learnt a lot from each other because they each have different styles."
