Glenstal Abbey 6 Crescent Comprehensive 3

Glenstal Abbey caused a huge upset by defeating Crescent Comprehensive in the Munster Schools’ Senior Cup quarter-final played at Thomond Park.

Crescent, bidding to complete a three-in-a-row of titles, were never allowed to be at their best as Glenstal took an early grip on proceedings.

The game was only nine minutes old when Crescent were penalised for not releasing and Jack Stafford slotted the penalty which made it 3-0 at the interval.

Dylan Sheehan dropped a goal for Crescent early in the second half but they were on terms for only six minutes as Stafford kicked his second penalty.

Both sides created chances but the Tom Tierney-coached Glenstal kept their nerve for what was a deserved win

Fullback Colm Hogan, centre Tim Costigan and outhalf Stafford shone for Glenstal behind the scrum and in the pack Alex Donohue, Ben Clancy and Neilus Mulvihill impressed.

For Crescent Jack Lyons, and Billy O’Hora, backs, and Peter Hickey and Caolan Moloney never ceased trying.

Glenstal will face Rockwell in the semi-final.
