Rugby:Connacht has bolstered their squad for next season with the signing of former Leinster hooker Jason Harris-Wright from Bristol and the granting of a first professional contract to 26-year-old Galwegians back Brian Murphy.
Harris-Wright, 24, is a product of the Leinster Academy and played 11 times for the province. He played four Heineken Cup matches, including last year’s final victory over Northampton Saints.
He will compete with the experienced Adrian Flavin and Ethienne Reynecke for the frontrow berth and admitted he is looking forward to playing in Europe with Eric Elwood’s side.
“I would just like to say I’m delighted to have signed for Connacht Rugby and I’m really looking forward to being part of a great club who I believe are making huge strides both in Europe and in the domestic competition. I look forward to meeting all the lads and getting stuck into pre-season next month.”
Connacht assistant coach Dan McFarland worked with Harris-Wright during his time with the Ireland under-20 side and believes the player can develop his game at The Sportsground.
“I’m delighted to be working with Jason again. He has gained a lot of experience including RaboDirect Pro12 and Heineken Cup with Leinster. He’s a good strong, aggressive athlete and this is a great opportunity for him to develop his game even further.”
Murphy played centre and fullback with Galwegians and was voted Club Player of the Year at the Connacht annual awards after some fine performances for the club in the All-Ireland League this season.
Both players have signed one-year contracts with the club.
