Rugby:Munster's New Zealand international wing Doug Howlett is to undergo a scan and seek specialist opinion this week after being injured during the RaboDirect Pro12 clash against Ospreys on Saturday.
Munster say Howlett has been ruled out of their back-to-back Heineken Cup appointments with the Scarlets during the next fortnight.
Initial examination has suggested Achilles tendon damage suffered late in a game that Munster lost 19-13 at the Liberty Stadium.
Meanwhile, Saracens coach Mark McCall has admitted his delight at picking up a player of the experience of Peter Stringer, after the Munster and Ireland scrumhalf arrived in London to begin a three-month load period at the Premiership club.
Stringer, who has won 98 caps, will be registered to play Premiership and Heineken Cup rugby with Saracens.
Saracens’ move for Stringer follows injuries suffered by their England number nine Richard Wigglesworth and South African Neil de Kock.
“We are delighted to have secured the services of Peter Stringer, an experienced player of proven quality,” said former Ireland centre McCall.
“We are fortunate to have a pair of outstanding young scrum-halves in Ben Spencer and Luke Baldwin, but the injuries to Richard Wigglesworth and Neil de Kock have left us exposed in this pivotal position,”
Saracens are next in action on Saturday when they resume their Heineken Cup campaign by tackling the Ospreys at Wembley.
