Who would have known that Paul O’Connell was so thoughtful - the Irish captain presents his in-camp room mate with a brand new set of ear plugs each week, so he doesn’t put ’the fear of God’ in to them with his snoring.
The Munster lock along with Ireland team mates Johnny Sexton and Robbie Henshaw is part of a new video made by Ireland's sponsors Three, to give an insight into what it takes to build team spirit, and the unique nature of camp life.
“I have two wax ear plugs, brand new obviously, and I present them to my roomie at the start of the week and they use those - because I do snore” admits O’Connell, telling Sexton, “I’m not a bad snorer but I can have a bad night - it can happen to anyone Johnny.”
The trio say that amongst all the pre-match pressure and nerves - the squad certainly make time for having a bit of craic, and a bit of slagging never goes amiss.
“There’s no rules,” explains Sexton. “We don’t take the piss so that we’d have to have curfews or rules - but once you get into Rala’s room it’s like all bets are off.”
Rala is the team’s kit man and according to O’Connell - “the most positive man on the planet... if you’re feeling a bit low you can always go into him and get a Dairy Milk.
“It’s all part of camp life for us - guys work hard at getting on well with each other and it does make it easy - as you’re going to be nervous enough, and you’re going to be up for it anyway.”
