Italy 23 Wales 20: Italy created Six Nations history with a dramatic late victory over Wales at the Stadio Flaminio, although the match finished in controversial circumstances when Wales appeared to have received incorrect information from the referee.
Mauro Bergamasco's try five minutes from time earned the Azzurri their second victory of the campaign - the first time Italy have managed the feat since joining the championship in 2000.
Wales scored the opening try through Shane Williams but Italy led 13-7 at the interval courtesy of six points from Ramiro Pez and a solo try from Kaine Robertson.
Wales then surged ahead with 13 unanswered points, including a try from Matthew Rees, before Bergamasco put his side back in front.
As the clock ticked into injury time, Wales won a penalty which Hook kicked for touch in search of a victory after apparently inquiring how long remained.
But, upon checking with the television match official, referee White blew for full-time - prompting furious complaints from the Welsh but wild celebrations from the Italians.
Williams admitted Wales were "gutted" after the controversial
end to the match. Williams said: "We said (to
the referee) 'How long do we have.' He said 'Ten seconds' and
we asked if we could kick to touch.
"We're gutted but that's the way it goes, we can't complain. Italy played well today."
