Leinster flanker Shane Jennings has been cited for alleged contact with the eye/eye area of London Irish lock Nick Kennedy during last Friday's 12-9 defeat at the RDS. The pair clashed in the first half, with Kennedy refusing to release Jennings and subsequently gesturing to his eye in front of French referee Romain Poite, who spoke with both players.
In his Irish Timescolumn today, Exiles captain Bob Casey claimed Kennefy admitted to over-reacting at the time, but Jennings has, nonetheless, been charged under law 10.4 (l), acts contrary to good sportsmanship, by Scottish citing commissioner Richard McGhee.
Suspensions for such incidents have varied recently with Neil Best (18 weeks), Alan Quinlan (12 weeks) and Schalk Burger (eight weeks) the most high profile cases.
No date for the hearing has yet been set.
Having lost the opening game in the defence of their European crown, Leinster can ill-afford to lose Jennings ahead of a trip to meet Brive on Saturday.
Declan Kidney will also be an interested observer of how the hearing pans out, as he prepares to name his squad for the November internationals against Australia, Fiji and South Africa.
