Rugby: Munster have boosted their squad with news that Cheetahs and South Africa prop Wian du Preez will join the province on a short-term deal once the Springboks tour of Europe is over.
It is welcome news for coach Tony McGahan, who badly needs extra cover at prop after Marcus Horan was recently ruled out until the New Year with illness, while Dave Ryan is injured and out until after Christmas.
Tony Buckley is also sidelined and John Hayes is still suspended while Darragh Hurley injured a shoulder during the Magners League defeat against Edinburgh. McGahan at the time was forced to promote Academy prop Stephen Archer such was the difficulty in covering the position.
Munster rugby confirmed Du Preez will join the province until the end of January. The 27-year-old was originally left out of the Springboks squad but was called up over the weekend along with his Cheetahs captain and team mate Adriaan Strauss.
So long as Du Preez gets clearance from his home Union along with work permit and passes normal medical procedures, he will join up with the squad before Munster take on the Ospreys in the Magners League on Saturday, December 5th.
