Magner's Celtic League: Munster moved to within touching distance of Magner's Celtic League e leaders Leinster with a 16-5 win over Connacht at the Sportground this evening.

Munster now trail their rivals by seven points, with Michael Cheika's side facing an away trip to Llanelli Scarlets tomorrow.

Declan Kidney's men could only manage one try, through New Zealander Doug Howlett, but following last week's 42-6 demolition of Ulster they will be pleased with a second derby win in a week.

Paul Warwick began the game at outhalf in place of Ronan O'Gara and slotted two penalties for the visitors before the Ireland playmaker was introduced to add one of his own and a conversion.

Danny Riordan's first half try had sent the hosts in two points ahead at the break.

Ulster are now looking over their shoulder at Connacht after another heavy defeat, this time at the hands of Ospreys and the Welsh international duo of Shane Williams and James Hook.

Wing Shane Williams continued his rich vein of form with two second half tries, while Hook scored 15 points to help move his side ahead of Glasgow Warriors into sixth.

First half tries from Nikki Walker and Hook left Ulster trailing 15-7 at the break after Kieran Dawson touched down for Ulster and Niall O'Connor converted.

Six Nations player of the tournament Williams still had his part to play, however, and touched down twice in the second half to finish the job and earn Ospreys the bonus point.

The result leaves Matt Williams' side just four points ahead of Connacht at the bottom of the table.
