RUGBY:Munster's Heineken Cup Pool One clash against Montauban has been put back until tomorrow at 1pm Irish time after high winds wreaked havoc in the south of France today.
Gales of up to 170 km/hr closed the airports in the area, including Toulouse, where a charter of Munster supporters was due to arrive.
The Aer Arann flight from cork with 56 passengers on board landed at Limoges Airport, where they will be put up for the night before being bussed the 150 miles to Montauban for tomorrow’s game.
Flights carrying supporters from London Gatwick and Amsterdam’s Schipol airports were also diverted.
The closure of the airport also left the Toulouse players stranded ahead of their clash against Bath at the Recreation Ground tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s lunchtime start has worked in Munster's favour somewhat, with today's results meaning they go into the game knowing a straight win will earn them a home quarter-final. A bonus-point victory could see Tony McGahan's side go into the draw as second seeds behind Cardiff.
The other Pool One game went ahead at Edgeley Park as Sale ended Clermont Auvergne’s slim hopes of qualification with a 26-17 victory to take second spot ahead of the French.
The Sharks only had pride to play for as they were already out the running for a place in the last eight following last weekend’s 37-14 trouncing at Thomond Park.
