Munster have confirmed that Paul O’Connell has not broken his left ankle after he went off injured in Saturday night’s Magners League victory over Leinster at Thomond Park.
The Ireland international went off after coming down hard from a lineout and twisting his left ankle and was replaced in the 47th minute by Mick O’Driscoll.
A statement on the Munster website today said that an X-ray showed no fracture in the ankle and that O’Connell will travel to Dublin on Monday for “further medical examination…to establish the full extent of the injury”.
O’Connell looks set to miss Munster’s Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final clash away to Brive next Saturday but the injury could yet end his season early.
