Ireland's most-capped player Malcolm O'Kelly was one of seven players left out of Declan Kidney's pared down squad of 34 today, as the new coach opted to inject some new blood by naming six uncapped players.

Leinster veteran O'Kelly joins Barry Murphy (Munster), Gavin Duffy (Connacht), Bob Casey (London Irish), Tom Court (Ulster), Michael Ross (Harlequins) and Roger Wilson (Northampton) who were also omitted.

Casey, Ross and Wilson were already prevented from joining up with the squad because of English Premier League restrictions.

O'Kelly has been struggling with a neck injury recently but started last weekend's Magners League clash defeat by Glasgow.

Leinster outhalf Jonathan Sexton, Munster's Keith Earls and Ian Dowling are the uncapped players named in the backs, while locks Ryan Caldwell and Donnacha Ryan, as well as Leinster prop Cian Healy will hope to get their first run out in the forwards when Ireland face Canada in Thomond Park tomorrow week.

Kidney will name his starting line-up for that game, the first of three autumn internationals, next Tuesday.

It will be Kidney's first match in charge since replacing Eddie O'Sullivan in the aftermath of this year's RBS Six Nations.

Ireland face further Tests against New Zealand and Argentina this autumn, both at Croke Park.
