Leinster will be without the services of Ireland A scrum-half Brian O'Riordan after it was confirmed the 25-year-old will join English side Bristol in the summer.

O'Riordan, who found himself behind Guy Easterby in the pecking order at Donnybrook, will be hoping for more first team opportunities at Bristol but will initially have to contend with playing second fiddle to established number nine Shaun Perry.

Bristol coach Richard Hill has stated he views O'Riordan as cover for his current first choice who he expects to lose to the England set-up for extended spells.

"I've been looking for someone who can provide genuine first-class cover for Shaun as we think he will be involved with the full England set-up at times over the next year or so," he said. "We need someone who can step and perform at the highest level and Brian meets that criteria.

"At the same time we didn't need an individual who would come in and demand a first-team place without earning it. We've spent time with Shaun and developed him - he is our number one."
