Corinthians 12 Old Wesley 30:Old Wesley have won the All Ireland League Division title with a four-try display against Corinthians at Dooradoyle this afternoon.
Tries from scrumhalf Paul Campbell, Alan Thompson and two from Barry McLaughlin proved too much for the Galway side, for whome Cian Begley and Aurelien Casanova touched down.
The Dublin side began brightly and after just nine minutes Campbell scampered over the line for outhalf David Smith to convert.
Right wing Thompson showed his pace for the second four minutes later but Begley kept Corinthians in touch immediately afterwards when captain Pat Cunningham blocked down a clearance and offloaded to centre who made no mistake.
A Smith penalty on half an hour reopened the gap to 10 points.
The outhalf added another after the restart and Wesley never looked back, thanks to two excellent tries from McLaughlin.
The first was borne deep in their own 22 and saw the centre receive a pass from player coach Dan van Zyl before racing clearing and chasing his own kick to get on the scoresheet.
With eight minutes remaining Casanova crossed for Corinthians but McLaughlin’s stunning 65-metre run that saw him brilliantly evade some despairing tackles and touch down under the posts put the result beyond doubt.
