LEINSTER SENIOR LEAGUE CUP FINAL/Lansdowne 9 Clontarf 5:Three penalties from the boot of South African Charl Oosthuizen helped Lansdowne claim victory in a low-scoring affair at Donnybrook tonight.
All the scoring came in the first half, with Oosthuizen slotting over twice within the first 12 minutes. He claimed his hat-trick after his side were awarded a penalty when right wing Justin Meagher was tackled early by Michael Keating, who was subsequently sinbinned.
Clontarf secondrow Simon Crawford did barge his way over for the game's only try to leave Lansdowne 9-5 ahead at the break.
Oosthuizen missed a chance to increase his side's lead and it nearly proved costly when Clontarf left wing Niall O'Brien looked dead set for a try. But some brilliant covering from fullback Ross McCarron and centre Lorcan Kavanagh stopped him short as Lansdowne held out for victory.
