Wendell Sailor has been given an additional two-match ban and fined an extra €2,100 by an Australian Rugby Union (ARU) judiciary over a nightclub incident in South Africa.
Sailor, one of Australia's best-known rugby internationals, had already been handed a one-match suspension by the New South Wales Waratahs after going on a drinking binge in Cape Town two weeks ago.
But the ARU ordered their own hearing and imposed the additional penalties after the tribunal found Sailor's actions had damaged the image and reputation of the Waratahs, the ARU and the game as a whole.
"Australian rugby and our supporters expect their players to represent themselves, their team and their country in a manner befitting an international player," ARU Chief Executive Gary Flowers said in a statement. "It is unfortunate that we have had to resort to such a measure, but in this instance we were left with no choice."
Sailor released his own statement expressing his disappointment at the tribunal findings but that he would accept the additional penalties.
"It's more than fair to say I'm disappointed with the outcome," Sailor said. "Being suspended for two more games will take me up to a month on the sidelines, which especially hurts when the Waratahs need me to be on the field.
"However, I will accept this decision and get on with it."
Sailor missed last week's match against the Bulls after coming home from South Africa early following the initial one-match ban and will also miss the Waratahs' next two games against the Sharks and the Cats.
