Samoa 25-21 USA:  Samoa ended their disappointing World Cup campaign with a scrappy win tonight as their three-try first-half blitz saw them home 25-21 against the United States in their final Pool A match.

Samoa, without a dozen players through injury and suspension and depressed after losing their first three games, roared out of the blocks with tries for wingers Lome Fa'atau and Alesana Tuilagi in the first nine minutes.

Another try by lock Kane Thompson and Loki Crichton's boot had them 22-3 ahead at the break but the Americans were far more competitive in the second half and closed with a try for speedy winger Takudzwa Ngwenya and three Mike Hercus penalties.

However, another penalty by Crichton settled the Samoans and Louis Stanfill's last-minute try came too late to save the match for the Americans, but did secure their first bonus point of the tournament.
