Ireland and Leinster hooker Seán Cronin underwent surgery on Wednesday afternoon to repair tendon damage to a shoulder and is ruled out for the rest of the season.

Leinster have Pro12 games to come against Treviso and Edinburgh, but are already out of contention for the semi-finals.

Joe Schmidt gathers his Ireland squad together in mid summer to begin World Cup preparations, with Cronin expected to be sidelined for 12 weeks, seeing a return towards the end of July .
