AIB CUP:Defending champions Shannon earned revenge for an earlier league defeat when they beat Blackrock College 40-20 in the second round of the AIB Cup at Stradbrook yesterday. The Limerick side ran in five tries, taking an 18-6 half-time lead before stretching away after the break.
Tadgh Bennett enjoyed a fine day's work, going over for a try to add to three penalties and three conversions for a personal tally of 21 points, while Kyle Tonetti ran in a brace of tries for the home side.

The students enjoyed their day out as UCC hammered Portadown 37-0 at The Mardyke, while UCD were also too good for Rainey Old Boys as Neil Cowhey scored three tries in a 41-10 win at the appropriately named Hatrick Park. UL Bohemians completed the varsity clean-sweep with an 18-10 win over Dungannon at Annacotty.
Young Munster beat Belfast Harlequins 18-15 in a tough contest at Tom Clifford Park, while Ards squeezed home 14-13 over Old Wesley at home.
Bective Rangers beat Ternure 13-6 at Donnybrook, with Old Belvedere taking a 25-22 win over Ballymena in a game that required extra-time at nearby Anglesea Road.
Ballynahinch had a comfortable 33-10 home win over County Carlow, while Bruff travelled the short distance to Old Crescent and came away with a 15-11 win in the Limerick derby.
