Rugby:Munster have announced Peter Stringer is to join English Premiership champions Saracens on a short-term contract. Stringer has fallen behind Conor Murray and Tomas O'Leary in the Munster pecking order and has made just six appearances for the province this campaign.
Saracens have lost Richard Wigglesworth and Neil de to injury, and the club approached Munster with the proposal of a three-month loan deal for Stringer. It is anticipated the arrangement will begin with immediate effect once all paperwork has been completed.
“I believe I still have a lot to offer and I want to continue to play at the highest level,” Stringer said. “In the situation I currently find myself, that is outside the Munster matchday squad, I think this temporary switch to Saracens will serve my ambition best.
“This offers me a new challenge, and I am grateful to Munster management for their co-operation.”
McGahan coach Tony McGahan added: “We have a large squad and we’re trying to manage the whole group. You never know when you have to call them in but we’ve been in a situation this year where we’ve had four fit half-backs.
“It presents Peter with a great opportunity to keep playing at a high level and he was very keen for the move. He’s been a wonderful servant to Munster and if we needed him we could call him back.”
