Timana Tahu is set to return to rugby league after turning his back on a lucrative contract with the Australian Rugby Union.
The dual international, who has repeatedly denied reports linking him with NRL clubs since making the switch to the 15-man game in 2008, has reportedly re-signed with Parramatta for next season.
Tahu, who still has two years to run on his contract with the ARU and Waratahs, was a notable absentee from Wallabies training this morning.
ARU and Wallabies officials were lying low in the afternoon while New South Wales Rugby denied any knowledge of Tahu’s reported deal with the Eels.
The 29-year-old has struggled to make an impact at both Super 14 and Test level since making the switch.
Injuries and poor form have hampered his progress with the Waratahs, while he has seemingly fallen out of favour with Wallabies coach Robbie Deans this season having been overlooked for the opening five fixtures of the international season.
Tahu managed four Test appearances in 2008 but was widely criticised for his performances, most notably in Australia’s record 53-8 loss to South Africa last August where he was badly exposed.
