Rugby: Ulster tighthead prop John Afoa has been cited for an alleged dangerous tackle during Sunday's Heineken Cup quarter-final victory over Munster at Thomond Park.
ERC confirmed that they had received a citing complaint alleging that the New Zealand born World Cup winner had carried out a dangerous tackle on the Munster fullback Felix Jones during the second half of the match in Limerick. The complaint was made by citing commissioner, Peter Larter (England).
Jean-Nöel Couraud (France) has been appointed as the independent judicial officer to preside over the disciplinary tribunal, which will take place in Dublin on Thursday. The citing is based on Law 10.4 (j): “lifting a player from the ground and either dropping or driving that player’s head and/or upper body into the ground whilst the player’s feet are off the ground.”
Under the IRB recommended sanctions for offences committed within the playing enclosure, Law 10.4 (j) carries the following penalties: Low End (three) weeks; Mid Range (six weeks); Top End: (10-52 weeks).
