Rugby:Brian O'Driscoll has dismissed suggestions that he is considering ending his career in Sydney under Michael Cheika at the New South Wales Waratahs. The possibility of spending a season with the Super 15 franchise was raised by the Irish captain in a recent interview given in Australia but he took the opportunity to clear the matter up this afternoon.
“It was an interview I did three and a half weeks ago when Michael Cheika was given the New South Wales job and aspects of it have been regurgitated,” O’Driscoll explained today. “‘I’ve always said; never say never. But it’s certainly not on my to do list at the moment.
“I don’t know if I’m playing beyond June. I’m contracted until then, so I’m enjoying things at the moment and I’ve no plans or desires at the moment to be heading over there and I haven’t spoken to anyone about it.”
There was mixed news on the injury front for Leinster coach Joe Schmidt, meanwhile today as Gordon D’Arcy received a clean bill of health for Saturday’s Heineken Cup trip to Llanelli. That was tempered by Rob Kearney’s continued absence with a back injury.
