SOCCER: UCD 2 Drogheda United 1:A DRAMATIC 88th minute goal by substitute Sean Russell gave UCD another vital three points as they climbed further out of the relegation zone with victory over bottom of the table Drogheda at The Belfield Bowl last night.

The 17-year-old Russell, son of College boss Martin Russell, let fly from the edge of the box to seal College’s third win of the season.

College twice went close early on through Robbie Benson. He headed past the upright and then saw a shot brilliantly pushed round the post by alert Drogheda goalkeeper Steven Trimble.

Drogheda took the lead on the half hour when Stephen McCrossan’s free on the right was not properly cleared by the College defence and David Freeman pounced to fire home.

But UCD were level on 52 minutes when an inswinging corner by Dean Marshall on the left was powerfully headed home by unmarked midfielder Robbie Creevy.

And Russell grabbed all the late glory when he accepted a pass from Paul Corry to fire home from the edge of the box.
