Shamrock Rovers - 0 UCD - 1:NATIONAL LEAGUE PREMIERSHIP DIVISION: Barry Ryan saved a penalty for the second week running as UCD maintained their revival with this big win.
Ryan, who earned College a point with a late penalty save from Bohemians' Glen Crowe last week, won three points for his side last night with another spot kick save on 51 minutes.
If UCD were not happy with Ian Stokes' decision to give the penalty after Trevor Molloy went down under a challenge from Ryan as he raced onto Shane Robinson's pass, they will feel justice was done as Ryan dived to his right to palm Molloy's spot kick out for a corner.
UCD added further credence to their recent revival, shocking Rovers by taking a third minute lead and defending it to the death.
Darragh Ryan deserves all the credit for his work down the left, working a one-two with Robbie Martin before getting to the end line to cross low for John Martin to apply the finish from close range.
Molloy was central to Rovers' response; shooting inches wide with a terrific effort on 17 minutes after skillfully getting past Darragh Ryan.
UCD defended well, though, and Pat Sullivan cleared off the line from Robinson following a quick counterattack with Barry Ryan then making a spectacular tip-over save from Stephen Grant minutes before the break. A portent of his match winning penalty save to come.
