The latest word on the grapevine is that Turnberry is edging ahead of early favourite Gleneagles in the race to bring the 2009 Ryder Cup to Scotland, with Celtic Manor in Wales among the outsiders. The announcement won't be made until September, but I found a recent press release from Gleneagles utterly fascinating.
In a joint announcement involving Sandy Jones, chief executive of the PGA, we were informed that the Scottish Region had moved their headquarters to Gleneagles. And that the Jack Nicklaus-designed Monarch's Course is to be renamed the PGA Centenary Course. Given that Jones heads the organisation which has the 2009 Ryder Cup in its gift, where would you place your wager?
