The nine-year-old has become the Zola Budd of the racing world having proved a revelation since trainer Simon Earle decided to do away with his racing shoes.

The barefoot approach seems to have made all the difference as Saucy Night finally broke his maiden at Folkestone in January when seeing off a relatively weak field at the 11th time of asking.

Saucy Night's improvement has not stopped there as he defied a 9lb rise to finish second at the same track again on his next start, and he looked even better next time when obliging at Fontwell.

That victory resulted in an 11lb hike but again Saucy Night put up a good show to run Almost Broke to a short head at Wincanton, with a bad blunder two from home costing him dear. Saucy Night does not look to be finished with yet and he looks an attractive prospect in this event.
