UNDER-20 INTERPROVINCIAL Ulster 24 Leinster 16:ULSTER SCORED a try in each half to see off Leinster in their opening interprovincial game. Ulster lead 16-9 at the break in a first half that was littered with penalties.
Stuart Olding’s sixth minute penalty for the home side was cancelled out by centre Tom Daly’s kick four minutes later. Daly gave Leinster the lead with his second penalty on 16 minutes but Ulster fullback Rory Scholes restored parity with a kick on 20 minutes.
Scholes finished off a sweeping move for the game’s first try when he came on the angle to take Chris Farrell’s pass to go under the posts with Olding converting.
Leinster lost Daly to injury and were reduced to 14 men when winger Ryan Roopnarinesingh was yellow-carded on 35 minutes for a high tackle on Scholes. Olding knocked over the resulting penalty to give the home side a seven-point advantage at the break.
The visitors had centre Tom Farrell sinbinned on 60 minutes but Olding was off target from the resulting penalty, although he made amends six minutes later with his third successful attempt.
Ulster wrapped the game up 11 minutes from time when number eight Ben Alexander crashed over following a neat interchange of passes with Mark Best.
David Shanahan went over for a consolation try, which he converted for the visitors.
