SKERRIES CC 13, EAST GLENDALOUGH 3: IT TOOK an injury-time try from flanker Dean Harford to subdue East Glendalough in the Leinster (Section A) Duff Junior Cup final at Templeville Road yesterday.

This was appropriate given the magnificent resistance of the Wicklow boys and their insistence on playing ball-in-hand, expansive rugby against a more streetwise approach from Skerries.

The winners had better chances and more kicks at goal. Their lock Liam Quinn-Hegarty crashed to the line in the 40th minute to carve out a lead, but that was cut by outhalf Shane Farrar’s excellent strike from the left at the start of the final quarter.

Captain Robbie Jenkinson restored the five-point gap from 18 metres, and Harford’s strength was enough to secure the injury-time insurance try.
