NORTHERN IRELAND'S hopes of qualifying for the World Cup finals in France next summer ended after they were held to a scoreless draw by Armenia in Jerevan.

The result leaves Northern Ireland fourth in Group Nine with seven points from seven games while Armenia, still seeking their first ever World Cup qualifying win, are fifth on four points from five games.

Although mathematically both teams are still in contention for a place, the result realistically ends the aspirations of both of them.
