Scotland back-row forward Allister Hogg is hoping the Scots take the ruthless approach of compatriot and WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison into their Test against Japan at McDiarmid Park.

The 21-year-old Edinburgh player was in the crowd at the Braehead Arena last month to see the Scots fighter destroy challenger Samuel Kebede after just 59 seconds to retain his belt for a record-breaking fifth time.

Hogg, who will win his 10th cap against the Japanese in Perth, admits Harrison's clinical demolition is something Scotland would do well to follow against the Japanese.

"There's definitely a lesson to be learned from that fight," said Hogg, who is hoping Scotland can improve on their 31-14 loss to Australia at Murrayfield last Saturday. "But I'm sure Scott would say that you should never underestimate an opponent, certainly in boxing where it only takes one punch to beat you.

"Rugby is a bit different but you can never underestimate the other team, that's when things go wrong and we're certainly not underestimating Japan," he added. "People have this view of Japan that they are a lesser team but it's going to be a tough game and I can imagine it will be quite close.

"They will run all day and keep coming at you. But hopefully we can play sensible controlled rugby, do our basics well and come out with a win for the fans."
