Golf:Royal County Down professional Jerry Scullion topped the pile with a round of 72 at today's British Open Regional Qualifying at The Royal Dublin Golf Club.
Scullion, who plays primarily on the Irish PGA circuit since gaining his full PGA qualification, was one of eight players to advance from today’s Irish regional qualifier.
Scullion’s 72 left him one ahead of Castlecomer’s Brendan McDermott and amateur pair, Andrew Hogan (Newlands) and Germany’s Sean Einhaus.
Irish professionals David Rawluk (The Island) and Daniel Sugrue (Unattached), alongside Portmanock amateur, James Fox, and Denmark’s Jesper Thuen also qualified as they all shot 74.
Royal Dublin was one of 16 regional qualifying venues held across Britain and Ireland today. The eight qualifiers advance to the R&A’s Local Final Qualifying to be staged at Glasgow Gailes, Kilmarnock (Barassie) and Western Gailes in Ayrshire, Scotland on Monday-Tuesday, July 6th-7th.
Final Qualifying will see 96 players tee it up at each course where four players from each venue will qualify and earn their place in the 138th British Open to be held at Turnberry from July 16th-19th.
