Shannon dugout a victory against De La Salle, Palmerston, on Saturday but there was nothing in it for the spectators.
It was a trudging game in ideal conditions; but mistakes on both sides gave referee Alan McDowell a lot to do in simply implementing the basic laws.
After a fourth-minute penalty, Shannon finally went further ahead close to half time when they were awarded a penalty try which proved to be the difference in the end.Any three or four of the Shannon players were ready to pounce for the try out wide; but DLSP collapsed the scrum.
Despite scrappy play from both sides, with only DLSP's full back Devitt showing any initiative, Shannon held on.
