Lucan Sarsfields ... 1-13 Garda ... 1-5 Lucan Sarsfields are through to the semi-finals of the Dublin senior football championship following their victory over Garda at Parnell Park yesterday.
Joint top scorer was former Dublin midfielder Jack Sheedy who had four points from play. Sheedy, who lined out against his former club and intercounty team-mate Keith Barr, became more influential as the game progressed. Such was Lucan's dominance overall that Garda at one stage adopted a rather strange 5-3-1 formation from midfield.
Garda went in front through a point from Darren Owens but Lucan began to take control with a Sheedy point from distance seeing Lucan lead by double scores.
By half-time Lucan led by 0-9 to 0-3, four of those coming from the boot of John Doyle who sent over two frees and a 45 in addition to a point from play. And another score from Sheedy put Lucan into double figures.
Garda introduced Keith Barr's brother, Johnny, into the attack but poor ball into the Garda forwards meant Lucan where able to increase their lead through scores from Sheedy and midfielder Fran O'Hare.
Sheedy missed an easy chance in front of goal and Roscommon goalkeeper Derek Thompson denied Thomas Brennan before the same player linked up with Aidan Mc Kelvey to set up replacement Ciarán O'Neill for a point.
Garda were awarded a penalty which Keith Barr converted with four minutes remaining and then Dublin back Paul Casey cleared off the line to deny Garda.
Saturday's first quarter-final saw St Vincent's defeat Naomh Mearnog 2-15 to 1-5.
