A brilliant free-kick equaliser from substitute Ollie Keogh earned newly promoted Galway United an unlikely point from an incident packed game at Tolka Park.
In an eventful first-half Shelbourne's Tony McCarthy missed a glorious chance when heading wide from Pat Fenlon's free-kick after just 90 seconds. Worse was to come for the central defender.
Shelbourne took the lead after 14 minutes when Richie Baker's ball in behind Luther Watson sent Declan Geoghegan away up the left and Fenlon arrived to sidefoot home the cross.
McCarthy's misery was completed within five minutes before the break when he was twice booked, the first time somewhat dubiously, for fouls on Levine and duly sent off.
Thereafter, Galway, using their numerical advantage well, grew in confidence before equalising on 72 minutes. Keogh, on the field 10 minutes, tapped a free-kick to Gareth Gorman before collecting the return after a looping run to shoot into the top corner of the Shelbourne net.
