Men's Hockey: Pembroke have won the Leinster Senior League but their form going into the All Ireland League play-offs will decide whether their season has been successful.
A draw with Corinthians, who have sealed second place and also qualify for the end-of-season jamboree, was enough for the Serpentine Avenue side on a day, Saturday, hardly suited to playing.
Justin Sherriff pulled Pembroke back into the game with two short-corner drag flicks after Corinthians took a 2-0 lead with goals from Robbie Byrnes and Colin Stewart.
The task now is for one of three teams - Three Rock Rovers, Monkstown or Aer Lingus - to qualify for the third and final place in the play-offs. Rovers helped their cause with a 3-1 win over Aer Lingus.
When Aer Lingus look back, that game will be seen as pivotal to their overall standing this season. A win would have put them in the strongest position for third place, which now belongs to Rovers.
Peter McConnell hit two of Rovers' goals with Michael Yeats grabbing the other in the win that puts them in third place. They have just one game left, next week against Pembroke at Serpentine Avenue.
At the other end of the table YMCA pulled out an important result against Glenanne.
Having had three points deducted for fielding an illegal player, YMCA were flirting with the danger zone before the weekend. The last thing they needed was to get involved in the relegation shoot-out and a play-off with Division Two runners-up Avoca. But they beat Glenanne 2-1, both goals coming from Michael Fry and Glenanne's only strike from Paul Fitzpatrick.
Railway Union defeated Monkstown 3-2 to help their cause. That win means that next week's final game, against Trinity, who are just a point below them, could decide who goes into the relegation dog-fight.
UCD have already been relegated, while Clontarf gained automatic promotion several weeks ago as Division Two winners.
