US Tour: Vijay Singh claimed the rain-delayed Houston Open yesterday, carding a final round four-under-par 68 to hold off Scott Hoch by two shots.
The first Monday finish of the season was required after heavy rain fell on the Redstone Golf Club on each of the previous three days.
Singh yesterday first finished the third round tied for the lead with John Huston, then grabbed it for himself with birdies on two of his first three holes in the final round. He ended up with a 72-hole total of 11-under-par 277.
It was the second win of the season for Singh, who is second in the world rankings to Tiger Woods. He also won this event in 2002, when it was held at The Woodlands.
After claiming his first career money title last season, Singh is second this year with nearly $3.5 million, about $150,000 less than Phil Mickelson.
His 17th career PGA Tour win was worth about $900,000.
Singh now goes to New Orleans for the HP Classic, which gets under way on Thursday. Mickelson is also entered in the field.
