US Tour/PGA TOUR:Vijay Singh emerged from a logjam to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Florida yesterday - his first victory in 15 starts at Bay Hill.
Singh collected four birdies in five holes starting at the fifth to jump clear at nine-under-par at the turn on the difficult Bay Hill course in Orlando.
Conditions were extremely difficult for the final round, with sub-par rounds few and far between among the early starters.
Singh, with a final total of eight-under-par 272, finished two clear of Rocco Mediate, who with Singh shot best-of-the-day 67.
Vaughn Taylor birdied the last in a final round of 73 to claim third place on five-under-par 275 from Ben Curtis, while John Rollins, Sergio Garcia and Tom Lehman shared fifth place on three-under-par.
Four-time champion Tiger Woods made a good start to vault into contention, but a double bogey at the par-four 11th, where he three-putted from 18 feet, sent him plummeting to three-under. However, worse was to follow when he dropped six shots on the last three holes, finishing bogey, double bogey, triple bogey.
CHAMPIONS TOUR:Des Smyth was four shots off the lead halfway through the final round of the Champions Tour AT&T Classic at the Valencia CC in California.
Smyth, at five-under-par, trailed Fuzzy Zoeller, Loren Roberts and Bruce Summerhays, who were all on nine-under-par.
Smyth, who started the day at four-under-par, birdied the first hole in a first nine of 35.
