Swim Ireland has again shown its propensity to deal with the group which represents victims of child abusers Derry O'Rourke and George Gibney with an iron fist. The strong impression is that this group has become a nuisance to Swim Ireland now that Sports Minister Jim McDaid appears to be again disposed to funding the sport.

In a letter to McDaid, Swim Ireland chairman Tim Wyatt points out that the club which the campaigning group have set up does not seem to be affiliated to the new swimming body. The inference is that they have no rights.

Indeed. The group reasonably refuse to sign affiliation forms until an independent complaints committee is formed and the new code of ethics for children in sport is introduced to every club - as the Murphy Report recommended over a year ago. In addition, that the club is not affiliated has not stopped Swim Ireland from holding on to the paid membership fees.

Could anyone who can name the entire Independent Complaints Committee of Swim Ireland - recommended to be set up by Roderick Murphy in June 1998 - please email the address below? Many thanks.
