GALETOLLAH duly landed the odds in yesterday's slowly-run Harristown Novice Hurdle at Punchestown, but J.P.McManus's six-year-old, already successful in two bumpers and a maiden hurdle, jumped carelessly, albeit galloping on relentlessly after making the running.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien said: "He has to learn. He has no respect for hurdles and would probably jump fences better - he just gallops away. As for his future, we'll just play it by ear".

Clearly, the horse has ability.

Winning rider Charlie Swan completed a treble on Go Go Gallant in the Final Handicap Chase and Black Queen in the Brannockstown Handicap Hurdle. The champion has now ridden 109 winners this season.

O'Brien may have three runners in the Ladbroke Hurdle on Saturday week, Crossfarnogue, Kaldan Khan and Justaway. The first mentioned has not been seen since winning a handicap hurdle with considerable ease at Tralee in August.

Kaldan Khan failed to land prohibitive odds when beaten two lengths at Fairyhouse last timed out, but, as his trainer said, he was giving I2lb to the winner Sambara and she staked her Ladbroke claims when runner-up to Kharasar at Leopardstown on Sunday.

Doonandoras's jumping in the Dollardstown Beginners Chase pleased Arthur Moore no end. Eamonn King's novice had Blazing Spectacle comfortably held when the latter came under pressure before rising to the last fence. Moore, who initiated a winning double with Good Glow in the opener, has two horses entered for the Ladbroke Hurdle, Family Way and Jeffell.

A last-flight blunder all but cost Black Queen the Brannockstown Handicap Hurdle, but Swan allowed her to recover momentum and she regained the lead close home to beat Woodville Star.
